RoHS Directive 2011 (2011/65/EC) restricts the use of hazardous materials in the manufacture of electrical and electronics equipment sold in the European Union after July 21, 2011.
Materials currently restricted by the RoHS Directive include heavy metal compounds and polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
Most thermoplastic compounds manufactured by RTP Company are fully compliant with RoHS Directive restrictions.
However, some products may not conform to current RoHS restrictions, such as:
- Some flame retardant products may contain decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE) — Prior exemption for decabrom was annulled by the European Court of Justice in July 2008.
- Only when authorized by customers, the coloring of some products may use pigments containing heavy metals that exceed levels permitted by RoHS.
Alternate thermoplastic compounds are available when necessary that are fully compliant with RoHS or other environmental regulations and provide similar performance criteria to end-use applications.
Upon request, RTP Company provides certification that individual thermoplastic compounds are compliant with RoHS Directive 2011 (2011/65/EC) or other specific environmental regulations.
